Using your PC, Media Digitalizer allows you to record cassettes, records, live audio from a microphone and other analogue audio sources and save them in MP3, CD, WMA or Wave format. The CDs and MP3s you create with Media Digitalizer can then be used with any player that supports these files.

Additionally, you can use Media Digitalizer to backup your cassettes into long lasting digital formats for archival and storage.

Even if you have never recorded anything with your computer, you'll find Media Digitalizer simple and easy to use.

Step 1 - Connecting the cassette player

Step 1

The first step is connecting your cassette player to your computer.

To do this, you'll need a audio cable. The most common type needed is a "1/8" Stereo mini-jack to 1/8" Stereo mini-jack" This type has two identical small plugs with 2 plastic rings on each end.

Tip: Stereo plugs have two rings, one for each channel. Plugs that only have one ring are mono and should not be used.

To connect the cassette player, do the following:

  • Turn the volume on the cassette player down to about 15%-25%.
  • Connect one end of the cable to the cassette player's headphone socket
  • Connect the other end of the cable to your computer's Line-In socket. This socket is usually a blue colour on newer computers.

Step 2 - Finding the recording line and adjusting the volume

Step 2

After connecting the player to the computer, the next step is to find out which recording line to use. Each computer has several recording lines. The obvious ones are Line-In and Microphone which are actual physical sockets. In addition, there can be several virtual ones which allow you to record internet audio or audio from digital files.

Media Digitalizer will automatically detect the recording line, and adjust the volume to the best settings, but you can also choose these manually if you wish.

Step 2b- Selecting the source material

Step 3

Media Digitalizer allows you to select the length of the cassette you are recording from. Then, Media Digitalizer will record for the exact correct length of time and no longer. Also, you won't need to stand next to the cassette player and hit Stop when the tape finished.

If you want to have as long a recording as possible, simply select Maximum Length.

Step 3 - Recording

Step 4

Now relax as Media Digitalizer records the audio into your computer. This will take as long as the cassette tape is, so feel free to go grab a cup of coffee.

If you are recording both sides, you'll have to flip the cassette. Media Digitalizer will automatically pause.

Step 4 - Selecting the tracks

Step 5

After recording, the next step is to select the individual tracks out of the recording. Media Digitalizer will select the tracks automatically. You will be presented with a visual view of the recording with the tracks highlighted. You can adjust the tracks simply by clicking and dragging them.

If you want to have simply one long track, click the Reset Tracks button.

Step 5 - Saving as MP3s

Step 6

After you have selected the tracks, Media Digitalizer will split the recording. Then, you'll see a list of the different media types you can create. If you select MP3, you'll see the above screen.

Simply follow the instructions to save the M3s and you are ready to enjoy your music!

If you want an audio cd, Media Digitalizer includes built-in CD recording software!
